Oxfordshire's only Open Access Fine Art print studio
The workshop runs short, repeat courses in many print processes throughout the year, all of which provide a foundation for joining OPC as a Standard or Associate member.
To book a place on a course (and for further details) please ring the tutor whose number is listed with the course details. A deposit of 50% is paid to the tutor to secure a place with cheques to be made payable to the tutor. Fees cover most materials.

1. Introductory Etching with Rahima Kenner - Jan 24th–Feb 28th
This course introduces the basic techniques of intaglio etching. These include using line (hard ground) and tone (aquatint). Also there will be sessions on drypoint, alterations (scraping and burnishing) and soft ground textures. Differences in pigments, inks and specialist papers will be discussed and attention given to workshop practice. All necessary materials are provided and optional specialist paper and zinc may be purchased.

2. Basic Screen Printing with Catriona Brodribb - 25th & 26th January
Screenprinting is a very flexible and capable medium. It caters for drawn, painted and photobased images. This course will cover how to prepare ‘positive’ images for screen with ‘truegrain’ drafting film for drawn images and photocopied images on acetates (for text and photographs). Printing is water based. Students will be able to produce a small edition.

3. Collagraph with Janet Lueck - 15th & 16th February
Day 1: making collagraph plates from your own ideas, using a mount card base, and range of different materials and cutting techniques to explore surface marks & textures to achieve different tonal values.
Day 2: printing your plates, using specialist printing inks, papers and the etching presses at the workshop. Different inking techniques are explored.

4. Monoprint for Beginners and Beyond with Neil Drury - 11th & 12th March
This course will soon have you producing some fascinating images, and able to explore & develop this endlessly varied process. Working initially in monochrome, and using plastic plates with oil paints, brushes and etching inks, simple procedures can open up the floodgates of creativity. You will also learn more complex methods on the second day, and go on to make even more creative images than you ever thought possible! Bring your imagination!

5. Stone Lithography with Colin Gale - 10th & 11th May
Colin Gale is the director of the Artichoke Printmaking in South London. He is a very experienced printmaker and has exhibited widely including the Royal Academy summer exhibition. He is the author of a number of books on printing techniques. He has given the two day course on stone lithography at Oxford on an annual basis for the last seven years. The numbers are limited so that each participant gains experience in the various methods of making prints from the lithograph stone. Participants can usually produce two images.

7. Multiplate Etching with Morna Rhys - 10th & 17th June
This course will enable those with basic etching knowledge to make a two plate image on copper, using both contrasting colours and black for the same image. The course covers transferring an image from the 1st to 2nd plate, inking with contrasting colours on one plate, and black on another, and how to experiment with colour printing. Bring source material (drawings or photographs) to base your etchings on.

9. Reduction Wood & Linocut with Catriona Brodribb - 2nd & 3rd August
A chance to experience the exciting effects created by wood and or lino plate making. We will look at different print papers, choices of tools, wood and ink. We will print by hand as well as by platen press. This course will suit beginners and those who have done some woodcut printmaking before. Tools and materials are provided, though you are welcome to bring your own.

14. Wood Engraving with Anne Desmet - 11th & 12th November
Suitable for beginners and/or those with some experience, the course will cover a range of approaches to fine line and tonal engraving on end-grain boxwood and lemonwood, as well as inking, printing and hand burnishing (on Japanese and European papers) and printing on an Albion relief press. Participants should bring sketches and/or photographs that might be used as the basis for creating small-scale black and white engraved images. The course will also include an introduction to the rich potential of creative collage using wood engraved prints.
